Cristina Pato

Cristina Pato (born in 1980 in Ourense, Galicia) is a bagpiper and pianist.

The first female Galician bagpiper to record a solo album in Spain, she has released three albums as a solo bagpiper and collaborated in international tours with bands such as Yo-Yo Ma, Silk Road Ensemble, The Chieftains, Hevia, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Osvaldo Golijov and in more than twenty recordings as a guest artist.

She has given more than 400 concerts in Spain, Portugal, USA (Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum), the United Kingdom (Celtic Connections 2004, Glasgow), France, Italy (Etnofestival, San Marino 2002), Germany (Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut, Berlin 2003), Mexico (Palacio de Bellas Artes 2004), many of them recorded and broadcast by television stations such as BBC, TVG and TVE acclaimed by The New York Times, El País, La Voz de Galicia or The Scotsman. Appeared as a guest artist in Yo-Yo Ma"Songs of Joy and Peace" (2008) and in TV show as The Colbert Report (Comedy Central) or The Early Show (CBS). As a member of The Silk Road Ensemble performed at Carnegie Hall, Harman Center, UN and Lincoln Center (PBS Live From Lincoln Center Series). She performed Golijov's Rose of the Winds, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Silk Road Ensemble April 2007. Cristina Pato is a Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano (Rutgers University).
